From Hiding To Hero

“The Lord turned to him and said, ‘Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?’” – Judges 6:14

When God called Gideon a “mighty warrior,” he didn’t feel like one. Hiding in a winepress, threshing wheat in secret, Gideon saw himself as the weakest in his family, from the weakest clan. His first response was doubt: “But how can I save Israel?”

If Gideon had let that doubt define him, his story would’ve ended right there. But here’s the turning point—Gideon didn’t let doubt take him out. He stepped out, even in doubt. He asked questions. He asked for signs. His faith was shaky, but he moved forward anyway.

And God was patient. He met Gideon in his weakness, confirmed his calling, and whittled his army down to just 300 men so there’d be no mistake: victory would come from God, not Gideon’s strength.

That’s what faith looks like sometimes. It’s not always bold and fearless. Sometimes it’s trembling obedience. Sometimes it’s asking God for one more reassurance. But it’s still stepping out.

Your doubts don’t disqualify you. God sees what you don’t. Where you see weakness, He sees a warrior. Where you see fear, He sees potential. And when you step out in obedience—even with doubt in your heart—you’ll discover that His strength is more than enough.

Reflection Question

What step is God calling you to take right now—even if you don’t feel strong enough?
