More Than A Seat

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” –1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)
The church isn’t just a building we show up to once a week—it’s a living, breathing community with a God-given purpose. In fact, the Bible gives us five clear reasons why the church exists: evangelism, fellowship, discipleship, worship and ministry.
- Evangelism - Sharing What Matters Most
- Fellowship - Finding Your People
- Discipleship - Growing Into Who You Were Meant to Be
- Worship - Living in Love with God
- Ministry(Serving) - Living Your Life to Lift Others
And then there’s ministry—serving others. It’s not just for pastors or people with fancy titles. Ministry is for everyone. Every believer is called to serve in some way. Whether it’s holding a door, making coffee, rocking a baby in the nursery, or showing up with a meal for someone who’s hurting—ministry is simply love in action.
When we serve others, we reflect Jesus. He said He came not to be served, but to serve—and He meant it. He washed feet. He fed crowds. He healed, listened, comforted, and gave His time, energy, and ultimately His life for others.
And when we serve, we’re not just doing tasks—we’re passing along grace. Every act of service, no matter how small, becomes a way to say, “You matter. God sees you. You’re not alone.”
It's not about filling a slot in ministry, it's about fulfilling a purpose.
So look around. Where can you jump in? What gifts or time or heart do you have to offer? The church needs you—not just in the seats, but in the game.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for inviting me to be part of something bigger than myself. Help me see where I can serve and use what You’ve given me to bless others. Let my hands be ready, my heart be willing, and my life be a reflection of You. Amen.
