Never Abandoned

There are seasons in life when it feels like heaven has gone quiet. Our prayers seem hollow, our faith feels thin, and God seems distant. But silence does not mean absence. Even Jesus, hanging on the cross, cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46). If the Son of God could feel abandoned, we shouldn’t be surprised when we face similar moments. Yet just as the Father had not left Jesus, He has not left us.
Scripture reminds us that God will “never leave us or forsake us” (Hebrews 13:5). Feelings come and go, but His promises remain. When our emotions shout that He is far away, we must anchor our souls in the reality of His Word. Faith is not about what we feel—it’s about what is true.
In those dry spells, God invites us to lean in. Instead of only asking “Why, Lord?” we can dare to ask, “What for?” What do You want me to learn? How do You want to shape me through this? Even in suffering, God is doing something purposeful. Hebrews tells us that Jesus “learned obedience from what He suffered” (5:8), and that He endured the cross “for the joy set before Him” (12:2).
Silence is not the end of the story. God is at work in ways we cannot see. He is as near as He has ever been, hearing the cries of our hearts and weaving our pain into His greater plan. Trust Him in the quiet—because the same God who was with Jesus in His darkest hour is with you today.
