Raise 'Em Right

Raise 'Em Right

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. – Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)

Parenting is more than just making sure our kids are fed, clothed, and educated. As Christian parents, we are called to raise our children with an eternal perspective—to guide them toward a relationship with Christ while equipping them to navigate life with wisdom and integrity.

But how do we do that effectively? How do we raise them in the way they should go while also keeping their hearts open to our guidance?

Too often, parents focus solely on rules and discipline, forgetting that connection is just as crucial as correction. Children who feel heard, loved, and understood are more likely to accept guidance. The goal is not to control their every step but to shepherd their hearts toward God’s best for their lives.

Keys to Raising Them Right

1) Be Intentional in Their Spiritual Growth

Faith isn’t absorbed by chance—it’s cultivated. Pray with them, read Scripture together, and show them what it means to follow Christ. Make God part of everyday life, not just Sundays.

2) Model the Character You Want to See

Children learn by watching. If we want them to be kind, patient, and faithful, they need to see those qualities in us. Our actions will always speak louder than our words.

3) Build a Relationship That Invites Conversation

Rules without relationship lead to rebellion. Take time to listen, celebrate their victories, and be present in their struggles. When children know they’re valued, they are more open to guidance.

4) Discipline with Purpose, Not Anger

Discipline is meant to teach, not punish. Correction given in love—rather than frustration—trains them in wisdom and self-control.

5) Pray Over Them Daily

No matter how well we parent, only God can transform hearts. Lift your children up in prayer, asking Him to guide, protect, and draw them closer to Him.

A Legacy That Lasts

Raising children isn’t just about surviving the day-to-day; it’s about preparing them for eternity. When we raise them with a clear purpose—pointing them to Christ while nurturing a strong relationship—we create a legacy of faith that outlives us.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for entrusting us with the gift of parenting. Give us wisdom to lead our children in Your ways while keeping their hearts tender and open to our guidance. Help us to model Your love, discipline with grace, and build relationships that point them to You. May our homes be places where faith is nurtured and legacies of righteousness are built. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
