Saved to Serve

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” — Mark 10:45(NIV)

In a world that often celebrates power, status, and self-promotion, Jesus turned everything upside down. He didn’t come demanding honor or attention—He came with a towel in His hand and humility in His heart. Mark 10:45 reminds us that the very Son of God “did not come to be served, but to serve.” That’s astonishing. The Creator of the universe knelt down to wash feet, feed the hungry, heal the hurting, and give His life for us.

Service isn’t just something Jesus did—it’s who He is. And as His followers, we’re called to reflect that same servant heart. Yet so often, we hesitate. We say we’re too busy, not qualified, or assume someone else will step up. But the truth is, we all make time for what matters most. God equips those He calls. He’s not looking for ability—He’s looking for willingness.

When we serve, we’re living out our faith in real time. James 2:17 reminds us that faith without action is dead. Serving others breathes life into our faith, showing the world what love looks like with hands and feet. Whether it’s within the walls of our church or in our neighborhoods, every act of service—big or small—echoes the heart of Jesus.

So today, ask God to show you one way you can serve. Maybe it’s offering encouragement, lending a hand, or volunteering in a new area. Remember, we were saved to serve—and when we do, we look most like Jesus.

Reflection Question

Where might God be calling you to serve right now—inside or outside the church—and what’s holding you back from saying yes?
