Who Is Jesus?

Who Is Jesus?

“But what about you?” He asked. “Who do you say I am?” – Matthew 16:15 (NIV)

This is one of the most important questions we’ll ever be asked: Who is Jesus to you?

If you ask the man on the street. You might get some of these responses:

  • “I think He was probably just a man whose story got exaggerated.”
  • “I’m not religious, so I don’t really think about Him.”
  • “He was a great teacher. I think He stood for peace and kindness.”
  • “Uh… wasn’t He the guy in the Bible? Born in a manger?”
  • “A wise man with a powerful message, even if I don’t follow a religion.”
  • “I don’t know much about Him, honestly. Just that a lot of people believe in Him.”
  • “Someone people look to for inspiration. I respect that.”
  • “I think He was real, but I’m not sure about the whole Son of God thing.”
  • A Christian might answer: “Honestly, Jesus means everything to me. He’s the one I turn to when life gets hard, and He’s also the one I thank when things go right. I believe He’s the Son of God, but even beyond that, He feels like a constant friend—someone who really gets me and loves me no matter what. His life and teachings help guide how I try to live—loving people, forgiving, staying hopeful. I don’t have all the answers, and my faith isn’t perfect, but knowing Jesus gives me peace and a sense of purpose I couldn’t find anywhere else."

Here’s the thing, Jesus didn’t leave room for those to be the only answers. He claimed to be the Son of God, the Savior of the world, the only way to the Father. That’s a big claim—and it demands a personal response.

It’s not enough to know what your pastor, your parents, or your friends say about Jesus. He asked His disciples, “Who do you say I am?” He asks us the same today.

Maybe your answer is still forming. That’s okay. Jesus invites honest questions and meets us right where we are. But don’t let the question go unanswered. Sit with it. Pray about it. Search the Scriptures. Ask Him to show you who He is—and He will.

Because how you answer that question? It changes everything.

How would you answer that question?
